Why We Work (And The Art of Giving and Receiving) Part 1
When I am working on clients, often times you will not hear me saying much. Part of the reason is because I am in deep focus, making sure to address your concerns, making sure the pressure is just right, and tuning into the language of the body. But really I don't say much because I want you to have the space you need to be in deep relaxation and often times that means stepping away from our normal everyday expectations of social conversation. And stepping into a space of deep trust and the art of letting go.
Some clients float away to the nether regions of the ether - you may have experienced this other dimension during a massage. Where it feels like you are in an in between world. Scientifically, this can be described as being in a Theta brainwave state:
"Theta activity is seen in connection with creativity, intuition, daydreaming, and fantasizing and is a repository for memories, emotions, sensations. Theta waves are strong during internal focus, meditation, prayer, and spiritual awareness. It reflects the state between wakefulness and sleep and relates to the subconscious mind. While other clients are fairly lucid and sometimes chat and ask questions. Sometimes these questions are quite funny and different...and can lead to clarity in defining purpose (an ever changing process). One client recently asked "So what do you work for? Why do you work so much? Is there something you are working towards?"
It caught me a little off guard. Massage has become so integrated into my life, it is hard to separate what is "work" and what feels like I'm just doing what I am supposed to do. I answered her that obviously we live in the Bay, housing is difficult, and everyone has to hustle here to stay above water. And yes, I do have some long term goals I'd love to see play out (the dream of land, building a natural cob house, starting an animal sanctuary, etc).
Part of why I have been working so much, is simply just to get this practice off the ground! This is still our first year and we thank you so much for being a part of our growth. We are starting to see more clients, and hopefully we are transforming some of that pain into bliss. The feeling of hopelessness into possibilities.
Chronic pain isn't that much fun. It restricts, it can hold us back from things we love. It can affect those around us bc we are not in a good mood and our minds are not present to what's around us. Perhaps this step you are taking towards a life of Ananda (tapping into the blissful nature of Universal Consciousness), perhaps you will take this back to your everyday life. To your communities. So that we can be more alive and present with all. After all, it is only natural when you receive the work of thoughtful compassion, that you will then have more capacity to give to those in your life as well.
